Beerland Blog‘THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN’

July 22, 2019by admin

So, I, Tom, the current Whitfords brewer am moving to another brewery closer to home. I thought I’d take a minute to say my goodbyes and let my replacement introduce himself.

Though I’m excited about my new role, I am sad to leave the Beerland family. I have enjoyed my time here and have a lot of love and respect for the people I’ve worked with in my time here. We’ve accomplished a lot together since I started 2 years ago, we made many Limited Edition brews and it was a lot of fun getting creative and working out ideas with Ken and Andrew.

Beyond that, there has been some amazing accolades as well, 2018 AIBA awards saw us taking out not only a trophy for ‘Best Wheat beer’ but also the coveted ‘Champion Australian beer’. We also, received many Golds, Silvers and Bronzes in the last 2 years at countless beer awards that prove the devotion to consistent, quality products. I’d like to thank each and every last person in the Beerland team for what may well be a once in a lifetime achievement taking out so many gongs.

Now, for the future! The man taking my throne here at WBC has an extremely impressive CV, so I’ll pass the mic to him to let him explain his story.

Signing off for good,

Tom Fleay.

Hi! I’m taking over from Tom. My name’s Florian, and I’m looking forward to working with the team here at WBC to continue bringing you delicious beers. While Tom has certainly left me enormous shoes to fill, I relish the opportunity to continue in his proud tradition.

Originally an avid home-brewer I started professionally craft brewing at a small brewpub in Toronto, before deciding to gain a theoretical foundation for my passion at the University of Weihenstephan. That done I emigrated to Australia, and have been working in breweries in Perth ever since.

Brewing at WBC gives me the opportunity to get back to the craft side of beer, which is why I became a brewer in the first place – I love the final product, but being involved at all stages of its production are a large part of the passion for me. Having close control over the process and playing a role in product development and innovation is an exciting part of the job, and I can’t wait to get into it!

Cheers!

Florian
